Hope Hacks

The Hope Hack events are all about changing the conversation, giving young people a voice and allowing them to explore and develop innovative solutions to societal challenges. Each Hope Hack event brings young people aged 14 to 24 together from communities across the United Kingdom. They’ll work with each other in workshops to generate ideas which they then present back to the wider group.

Each event will be slightly different, and will focus on the issues relating to poverty & inequality, such as; Education, Skills & Employability, Media & Marketing, Mental & Physical Health, Sports, Recreation & Culture, Racism & Division, Housing & Environment, Youth Work, Community Safety.

Through the Hope Hacks we are aiming to find out what a fairer society looks like through the eyes of young people. These events are all about focusing on the solutions to poverty and inequality rather than the symptoms and causes. We will give young people a platform to share their solutions for creating a fairer society and the opportunity to voice the importance of these in their communities.

The ideas and solutions from the hacks will be incorporated as part of a ‘Reimagined’ report along with key survey data to create the biggest needs assessment into what young people think a fairer society looks like.

Changing the Conversation

In 2021 we ran a pilot project with our youth management group called “Changing the conversation” – Rather than continue to be fed a narrative of knife crime, gangs, drugs, and violence they wanted to talk about the real problem of poverty and inequalities, not the symptoms and start to explore real solutions

We created the Hope Hack and ran the pilot in London, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow, and Cardiff.

You can download a summary of the project here.
